Overcrowded! Hong Kong Jordan's Kai Kai Dessert: The Sweetness Turns Bitter After the Long Wait

Hong Kong’s Kai Kai Dessert: Once a Hidden Gem, Now Overcrowded

Kai Kai Dessert in Hong Kong is undoubtedly one of the city’s most famous dessert shops. I remember visiting it with my local friends before it even earned a Michelin recommendation. Back then, it wasn’t located in the same spot, and the crowd wasn’t nearly as overwhelming. It was a small, refined, and low-profile dessert shop, known mostly to locals—a true hidden gem.

Fast forward to today, and Kai Kai Dessert in Jordan has become a completely different story. My younger brother and his friends originally planned to stop by for a late-night snack, around 10 or 11 PM. But as soon as we reached the entrance, we were shocked by the sheer number of people. Do people in Hong Kong not need to sleep at night? There was a massive queue waiting in front of the shop, and although their table turnover rate is fairly quick, the overwhelming sight of the crowd immediately discouraged us.

And what we saw was just the tip of the iceberg. Off-camera, many others were approaching the shop from different streets. Its proximity to Temple Street adds to the flow of people, as visitors often wander over after exploring the market. Whether the desserts are worth waiting in such a long queue is up to you, but for us, we decided to give up and head back to the hotel for an early rest.

The next day, as we passed by the shop again, we took another glance. Unsurprisingly, the crowd was just as large. At this point, we’ve decided to forget about Kai Kai Dessert entirely!
