A Taste of Creamy Bliss: 150-Year-Old Yee Shun Milk Company's Double-Skin Steamed Milk is a Must-Try

The first time I tried Yee Shun's double-skin steamed milk and ginger milk pudding wasn’t in Macau but in Hong Kong. If I remember correctly, Yee Shun originated in Macau and later opened branches in Hong Kong. I can’t claim to know the brand deeply, but it’s been at least 10 or 20 years since I last had it. Back then, I had a good impression of it—the texture was smooth, the milk flavor rich but not overly sweet. The ginger flavor in the ginger milk pudding wasn’t as intimidating as I imagined, but I suppose it might not be for those who dislike ginger.

This time, I spotted it on Rua do Cunha in Macau and decided to have some as an afternoon dessert. Is it the same authentic brand? I have some doubts—the name and signage were slightly different—but I didn’t dwell on it or bother looking further, haha. I figured the difference wouldn’t be too significant. Even branches of the same brand can vary a bit. After trying it, I found the taste still quite enjoyable. Some might say it’s similar to panna cotta, and that’s not entirely wrong, but the texture is less firm and more silky. The milk flavor is rich, although I can see why some people might not like it. For me, it was more of a nostalgic experience.
