The Venetian Macao: Your One-Stop Destination for Hotel, Casino, and Sightseeing

The Venetian Macao is a hotel that fulfills countless imaginations for most visitors, making up for the regret of not being able to visit the canals of Venice. After all, flying to Europe can be costly, and long vacations aren’t always possible. This was actually my second visit to The Venetian Macao. When it first opened, many nearby hotels were still under construction, and this area was relatively desolate. It’s completely transformed now, with hotels and casinos everywhere.

To be honest, I’ve never been particularly interested in riding a gondola here, neither in the past nor now. If I were to ride one, I’d rather do it in Venice! What’s impressive here, though, is the creation of an indoor canal within the hotel itself—and it’s not even on the ground floor. However, once you can actually see the bottom of the water, some of the fantasy fades!

The ceiling here shows a 24-hour blue sky with clouds, giving you an indoor illusion where you can’t tell if it’s day or night—unless you constantly check the time. This setup seems to help keep gamblers around to spend more! When we arrived, the shopping arcade was nearing closing time, so it was relatively quiet, allowing us to stroll leisurely without the crowds. However, the space is so vast that it’s easy to get lost and end up with sore feet from all the walking.

There’s a branch of Lord Stow’s Bakery next to the canal at The Venetian, so if you don’t want to head to the main store or Rua do Cunha, you can still get a taste here. Unfortunately, we saw the last customer buy the remaining egg tarts right before our eyes—heartbreaking! Luckily, we got to try them the next day!
