The Temple Entrance Black Tea (currently closed temporarily due to receiving a red notice after the 403 earthquake) is located right in front of the Hualien City God Temple, hence the fitting name "Temple Entrance Black Tea." However, even if they relocate, continuing to use this name wouldn't raise any questions as it has already become an established brand name. They have recently redesigned their signboard, which has a similar style to the new neighbor, Public Bun Shop. Could it be that they hired the same design and planning company?
The food offerings at Temple Entrance Black Tea are almost identical to those of a typical Taiwanese breakfast shop, including egg pancakes, sandwiches, and radish cakes. They also serve Taiwanese-style macarons. (However, these seem merely average, with a slightly too sweet taste and texture.)
Apart from their signature black tea, the biggest hidden gem is the soy milk tea. Although many people order this drink, it is oddly not listed on the menu - but everyone knows about it and orders it anyway. However, the sweetness level of the soy milk tea cannot be adjusted as they use sweetened soy milk, so it is slightly sweet but not overly so. The ratio of soy milk to black tea is well-balanced, allowing both flavors to come through without clashing or one overpowering the other. It's definitely worth trying, as this was my first time having soy milk tea!
